Garlic Bulb for Fall Planting - Organic
2025 Garlic Offerings:
Red Russian, Siberian, and German Extra Hardy Hardneck Garlic.

Red Russian: We love Red Russian Garlic. It is incredibly easy to grow, has beautiful curly scapes in the late spring and lasts well into the winter! Fedco Bulbs (our original supplier years ago) says that Red Russian garlic was "said to have been brought to the Pacific Northwest by Russian immigrants in the early 1900s, and so named for its mottled burgundy skin. Forms a ring of 5–12 large plump cloves around a central stalk. Keeps well for over six months (at least). “Delicious garlic flavor with no bitter aftertaste,” says Russian Red grower and garlic aficionado M. Coffin".
- German Extra Hardy: This is a popular heirloom garlic for good reason! It has big, easy to peel cloves and a wonderful garlic taste. Approximately 4-6 cloves per bulb, excellent storage.
- Siberian: Large, uniform bulbs store well for a hardneck type. Easy to grow, robust flavor, especially when sauteed. It is also good raw- with good flavor and no after taste. We enjoy it in salad dressings, sauteed with veggies and roasted on just about everything! Approx 6 large cloves per bulb.
Each Bulb is at least 1.75" in diameter
Typically, hardneck varieties produce flower scapes in June that can be cut and used to make garlic scape pesto or flavor other dishes. We adore scapes! They are far less pungent that garlic, but with a delectable flavor and texture that can't quite be compared to anything else. In proper conditions, hardneck garlic can be stored and used through February.
How is the garlic at Daisy Hill Farm grown? All of our garlic is grown according to organic standards. We add 1 tablespoon of Fedco's "3G Greener Garlic Grower" Fertilizer per clove when planting in the fall, and then use Neptune's Harvest fish fertilizer every few weeks in the Spring. No pesticides are used. We mulch with hay/straw and water often (it is a thirsty crop). After cutting off the scapes in June, the garlic grows another 4ish weeks until early July harvest. We clean off the dirt and cure it in the shade of the garage for 3 weeks before storing it in the cool, dark basement until it is picked up by customers or planted in the fall.
When to plant your garlic: Garlic should be planted in the mid-late fall. We usually plant ours in mid November. Garlic is typically harvested in July.
