Class Description: Did you know that the best gardens start in the fall? In this class you will learn how to prepare your garden bed for the following spring for a rewarding spring garden. You will learn in a hands-on manner how to clear the garden of old plant debris and use that plant material (plus the fallen leaves) to make your own incredible compost to use the following year. You will then learn to tell if compost is ready to use, sift it and and apply it to the beds. Next, you will learn to read a soil report and use the information to amend the soil with organic nutrients. Finally, you will learn to plant garlic for a harvest the following summer. Other topics covered will include preseeding cold weather greens, preparing for fruit tree planting and building new garden beds for the following year. Each class participant will take home a garlic bulb to plant in their own garden.
